- Z Flip 5: Bigger display, optimized apps, better experience.
- Samsung and Google collaborate for Z Flip 5: Enhanced navigation, video, and messaging.
- Flip 5: Unveiling soon with a faster chip, larger battery, and dust protection.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is considered one of the top choices when it comes to flip foldable phones. However, Samsung’s upcoming model, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, is expected to offer an even better experience. One exciting improvement is the expansion of the cover display size to around 3.4 inches, which will significantly enhance its usability. Recent reports suggest that Samsung is collaborating with Google to optimize several of their popular apps for the Z Flip 5’s external display. Apps such as Google Maps, YouTube, and Messages are among those being optimized.
These optimizations will allow users to perform various tasks on the phone’s cover screen, including getting navigation directions, watching videos, and messaging friends. Google Maps, for instance, will have an interface specifically designed for the outer screen, enabling users to look up navigation directions without having to unfold the device.

It’s worth noting that older models like the Flip 4, which has a smaller cover display, will not benefit from these upcoming optimizations. However, Samsung also plans to optimize its own apps to make the most of the Z Flip 5’s larger cover display.
Given the history of collaboration between Samsung and Google in maximizing the potential of foldable devices, it is not surprising to see Google optimizing its apps for Samsung’s Z Flip and Fold phones. Furthermore, with the release of the Google Pixel Fold, Google has an added incentive to ensure its apps deliver a great user experience on foldable devices.
The larger cover display will be one of the standout features of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 this year. While the upgrades overall may be incremental, there will be improvements such as a faster and more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a larger battery, official dust ingress protection, and other minor enhancements.
Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 will be unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea, in late July.
