- Google is rumored to be working on a tracking device similar to Apple’s Airtag, as evidenced by the discovery of a new icon in Google’s Material Icons catalog.
- By being late to the tracking device market, Google has the advantage of observing Apple’s challenges and addressing them in its own product, potentially adding new features missed by Apple.
- Google’s entry into the tracking device market may disrupt the industry by offering Android users a much-needed product that was previously only available to iPhone users.
When Apple launched Airtag two years ago, it took the market by storm because by that every iPhone was now able to locate the object trackers, which was a much-needed product for the market. After being silent for some time, Google started working on a tracking device similar to Airtag, which was codenamed Grogu and identified by leakers.
On Google’s multi-page Material Icons catalog hosted on the Google Fonts site, leakers found a new icon for a product named Nest locater tag, which looks similar to Airtag. So it is very difficult to say that it’s a product other than Google’s rumored Grogu tracker identified by leakers earlier this year.
Google’s comeback: tech surprise or too late?
The Discovery of this icon gives more weight to the rumors that Google is working on its own tracking device. Without getting the physical form done company can not go further on this project. Based on the icon found, it can be seen that Google might be working on a tracker which looks similar to Apple’s Airtag.
Although Google might be late in the market, its also give some advantage to Google. Because Apple faced some issues regarding the negative use of their tracking device, like stalking. Apple made an Android app solely to counter issues like these. But it is not the permanent solution. Both tech giants Google and Apple came two the conclusion that they have to collaborate to prevent issues like these. Google might take 1 place in this race with being late because they might add up features that were missed by Apple like ultra-wideband (UWB), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), a built-in speaker for chimes, fast pair.
We have been missing a good tracking device like Airtag in the Andriod circuit for a long time, but it is probable that we no longer have to wait further. It looks like the tech giant is near to launching its own tracking device, which might disrupt the market.
